9-week Fellowship in Germany for young U.S and Canadian journalists

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) is accepting applications from young U.S. and Canadian journalists who wish to share their professional expertise with their colleagues in  Germany.  The Arthur F. Burns Fellowship program provides an opportunity for the journalist to work as a "foreign correspondent" for their hometown news organization.

Applicants may apply for a 9 week or 5-6 week program (July - Sept 2018).  Fellows receive a $4,000 stipend to cover living expenses during the fellowship in Germany, $1,200 for travel expenses or a travel voucher, and living expenses paid during orientation in Washington, D.C.  (Fellows on the 5-6 week program will receive an amount proportional to the length of their fellowship.)

The Program for U.S. Fellows:
Phase I: Orientation Session in Washington, D.C.
Phase II: 
Individual Fellowships in Germany

Who May Apply:
  • U.S. and Canadian journalists between the age of 21-40
  • must be employed by a newspaper, news magazine, broadcast station, news agency or work freelance and/or online
  • must have demonstrated journalistic talent and a strong interest in North American-European affairs
  • should have two years of professional, full-time journalism experience.
  • German language proficiency is not required, but it is encouraged

Individual Visual Artist Grants, $5,000 - $30,000

The Pollock-Krasner Foundation accepts grant applications throughout the year from individual artists who are painters, sculptors and artists who work on paper, including printmakers who are exhibiting their current work in professional artistic venues, such as gallery and museum spaces. 

The 1-year grant covers legitimate expenditures relating to the artist's professional work and personal living, including medical expenses.  Selection is heavily based on the images provided in the application as well as the artist's personal statement of need. There are no deadlines.

Grant does NOT fund:
  • commercial artists
  • video artists
  • filmmakers
  • performance artists
  • craft-makers
  • students or academic study

Ineligible Expenses:
  • past debts
  • legal fees
  • purchase of real estate
  • relocation expenses or personal travel
  • costs of installations
  • commissioned projects

​Applicants will be required to submit the following via online process:
1. Cover Letter - Stating the specific purpose (professional, personal and/or medical) for which you require funds and in what amount
2. Resume/Curriculum Vitae - A current resume or curriculum vitae listing your exhibition record, grants, awards, residencies and other professional activities, including dates and locations

4. Digital Images (JPG format)
5. Optional Artist Statement
