![]() In response to the state of Atlanta's public schools, the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta has created a new initiative - Parent Leaders United for Students (PLUS). PLUS seeks to include parent voice to help empower public schools to provide excellence in education for students. By encouraging and facilitating parent engagement in schools and school systems, the Community Foundation hopes to increase positive student outcomes and add a critical component to transforming school systems. PLUS grants are available in the amount of $250 - $1,000 to help parents transform "ideas into action" and applications are being accepted through February 2017 to fund events, trainings, festivals, parent engagement programs, mentoring programs and communication vehicles that encourage and increase school and system-wide parent participation. By bringing together and training professionals who are passionate about their careers, they help close the technology skills gap. Global Assembly Atlanta is offering coding courses and exposure events including #ilooklikeadeveloper (free) on September 15th and an HTML/CSS one day crash course ($100) among many others. Click here for more information. ![]() The Awesome Foundation is a "global community advancing the interest of awesome in the universe, $1,000 at a time." The organization has over 18 chapters worldwide and over 50 in the United States, each deciding independently on the projects they wish to fund. The funds are paid by the trustees from each chapter and have no strings attached. Awesome Foundation chapters fund uniquely creative projects in a wide range of areas including community development, arts, technology, etc. to people and groups working on awesome projects.
